We envision a global society where the universal principles of equality, fairness, and justice prevail.

For over twenty years, we have honored and promoted the legacy of Robert H. Jackson, U.S. Solicitor General, U.S. Attorney General, U.S. Supreme Court Justice, and Chief U.S. Prosecutor of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg.

The Jackson Center advances the legacy of Justice Robert H. Jackson through education, using a variety of methods including in-person and virtual programs and presentations, exhibits, available media, and scholarship. We demonstrate the contemporary relevance and applicability of Justice Jackson’s ideas and work to current and future generations.

Internship Application Window Open

The Robert H. Jackson Center is now accepting applications for our Summer 2025 Internship Program. We welcome dedicated and intellectually curious college and graduate students from across the country to experience the rich opportunities available at the Center and the beautiful summer atmosphere of Chautauqua County.

The program typically runs between Memorial Day and Labor Day, with scheduling flexibility available. While housing is not provided, we can assist in connecting interns with local accommodation options, including potential housing at SUNY JCC.

Interns will develop a comprehensive understanding of Robert H. Jackson’s principles and legacy while engaging in hands-on experiences including:

  • Participation in seminars, conferences, and field trips, including a visit to Washington, D.C.
  • Networking opportunities with experts in international humanitarian law, history, and nonprofit leadership
  • Research projects, program development, and professional growth through mentoring
  • Experience in nonprofit operations and team collaboration
  • Tour guide responsibilities and participation in Center social events
  • Close collaboration with staff, including mentorship from our president
  • $2,000 stipend

Interns work closely with our staff in a collaborative environment that fosters both professional and personal growth. Our president serves as a coach throughout the summer, providing guidance and mentorship.

Applications close at the end of February. Given the winter holidays and the quick pace of the academic calendar, we encourage interested students to apply early.

Korematsu v. United States at 80

In case you missed it, this moot court reenactment and re-litigation event at George Washington University Law School last month aired on C-SPAN2 this past weekend and is now available for streaming.

We are asking the public to share short stories about their relationship with democracy in a recording studio set up in the Center’s library. The RHJC is proud of its long tradition of recording oral histories, this represents the first time we are collecting stories from the public at-large. To schedule a time to record your story during the exhibit’s residency, contact a staff member at 716-483-6646, info@roberthjackson.org, or book online.

New Video: 20th Annual Jackson Lecture on the US Supreme Court

Kate Shaw, was speaker for the 20th Annual Robert H. Jackson Lecture on the Supreme Court of the United States, Monday, July 29, 2024 at Chautauqua Institution.

Professor Shaw is a constitutional, administrative and legislation law professor at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. She previously worked in the Obama White House Counsel’s Office and served as law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.

Shaw discussed the majority’s opinion in the Trump v. United States case, which draws heavily on Jackson’s concurring opinion in Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co v. Sawyer. However, Shaw argued that the majority’s opinion twisted Jackson’s words to support an unprecedented level of presidential immunity – one that Jackson himself may not have endorsed.
